Talk Talk customers are being offered a generous incentive to pay their monthly bill as soon as it arrives. For anyone who has a home phone, TV or broadband account and settles their bill within 24 hours of receipt, they will be credited with a 15% discount. Payment has to be made by credit or debit card and is best suited to those who have paperless billing.
Talk Talk have said the incentive is all about rewarding those customers who have been loyal to them and it’s also about promoting the benefits of online billing.
The incentive is open to all who hold an online account and currently pay monthly even if they don’t pay by card at the moment. However, the discount is not being offered automatically to customers so there is a little bit of work to be done to take full advantage.
The first step is to opt in for the e-billing service if you don’t already. This will mean you’ll get bill notification through email rather than in the post.
After you’ve completed this step and receive your first bill via email, the clock starts ticking and you have 24 hours to make the payment. The date of the bill will be in advance of any direct debit payments so if you currently pay this way, you don’t need to worry as the system will adjust itself to say that you have paid which means you won’t be charged twice. You don’t need to cancel your direct debit as Talk Talk has assured customers that they won’t take the money again if early payment is made.
You can pay the bill by either following the link you’re sent in the email or log into your account. If you follow the link, it will tell you if you still have time to pay. If you choose the log in route, click on ‘bills & payments’, ‘make a card payment’ and then choose ‘apply 15% speedy payment discount’.
You need to have an online account to receive the discount, so if you want to still receive paper bills you can get 15% off, but it’s more difficult as by the time the bill arrives in the post, the 24 hour window won’t be available. The bills are always produced on the same day so check the date on your last bill and then use this as the date each month to check your online account to see if the new bill is available. Ensure it’s after 10am and if the bill isn’t there to view, check again the following morning. You can then pay through your online account even though you’ll still get a paper bill.
You will need to pay in full – you won’t qualify for the 15% discount if you only make a part payment. It’s also not available to those who are Talk Talk mobile phone account holders.
If your bill is higher than expected and you’ve not got quite enough in the bank to cover it, a payday loan may be the solution to help out for a few days. For those who want to make an application and find a lender they can deal with and not have their details passed on to a number of other companies, comparison site Payday Choice has a list of payday loans; direct lenders are included on it. With the speed of application processing for a payday loan, you’ll find that you can have the funds in your account and within hours and then pay your bill with Talk Talk.
The move by Talk Talk is bound to be watched with interest by other phone and broadband providers and if they decide to follow suit, this could add up to large savings each month for those who are quick off the mark with their bill payments.
